"You kill what you do not understand, not out of it being taboo, but out of fear you’ll serve no use."
– Merus
Background[]
To see his journey, look at The Main story of Bio-Anomaly
Merus is the Bio-Conduit of Pre-Eminence. He was made by his mother, Edra, as a means to kill the Conduits and anyone else who might oppose her. He was made from her greed and lust for power, to be better than anyone else. However, when he was born, the situation became drastically different. With the introduction of the All-knowing cat, Himmsworth, and the Forbidden Conduit of Disorder, Prism, Merus had grown into a kind-hearted and curious young boy despite his malicious origins.
Created into a cruel world, Merus is forced to confront dangers at an early age and is forced into situations that challenge his views on the people of the world.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
In Bio-Anomaly chapters 1-13, Merus takes on the appearance of a 10 year old Male. He is quite pale, has a white shirt and white hair that takes on the conditions of a White Dwarf star. He has crystal-like eyes that shimmer in almost any light. Lastly, unlike his mother, Merus wears socks instead of being barefoot.
A year or two later, in the side-story 'Training in Woa', Merus takes on relatively the same appearance, except he now wears a white long sleeved collared shirt that's rolled up to his elbows, along with that he has finger-less gloves, and long blue pants with toe-less socks. He still retains his White dwarf star hair. Throughout Volume 2 and Volume 3, he retains the same appearance at the age of 13 and 14.
Personality[]
Despite being the child of Edra, Merus is often seen as an optimistic and happy-going kid as he parades around Eden, mainly due to Himmsworth's intervention in his life. Merus is seen as a fanboy to the Knights, finding them as an inspiration and hopes to do what they do. In Volume 1, he is very childish and playful as he explores his new home. He holds a strong sense of justice, wanting to help out and save lives despite his lack of power to do so. As many children are, Merus is very curious about the world and those around him which leads to him asking a plethora of questions in an attempt to understand the world and people around him. At the end of Volume 1, he is shown the horrid and desperate world he truly lived in.
In Volume 2, he retains most of the same traits from Volume 1, however now with his training in both his abilities and Conduit-hood, he's grown in confidence of being able to handle situations when the need arises. Merus is seen as more eager to learn in Volume 2, wanting to lean into how to use his Bio-Conduit and improve his power in any way even if it meant getting help from the Conduits themselves. By this point, Merus becomes conflicted about the Conduits as a whole. He learns how important they are to the world and understands that completely, even being able to make friends with a few of them, but he has a hard time accepting what had happened with Death all those years ago. He outright rejects that he is a Conduit despite his many similarities to them. It's something he simply cannot grasp...yet.
In Volume 3, which doesn't take place too far after Volume 2, Merus retains more or less the same personality. Growing to be more mature, Merus has more of an open-mind in Volume 3, finally giving the Conduits a chance as he hangs around them more as his once frightful and disliking of the group is completely gone. Besides from Grace.
Relationships[]
- Edra, the Goddess of the Cosmos: Merus loves his mother to death. The bond between them is strong and nearly unbreakable. Merus knows he was made to be a weapon, yet he never let that ruin his relationship with his mother. The two really care for each other, as Mother and Son. Surprisingly, she’s not that bad.
- Himmsworth: Ever since their first meeting, Himmsworth and Merus had always had a sort of bond that closely resembled his bond with Edra, although not a full bond. Himmsworth has been there through thick and thin with Merus, always by his side and willing to give advice and help him. Merus deeply appreciates and trusts Himmsworth. The two have grown so close that Merus often thinks of him as a father he never had.
- Prism: Merus enjoys Prism's presence. When Prism is not around, Merus will often ask Himmsworth on how he is doing as he truly does care for Prism. While Prism likes to keep himself closed off, Merus can’t help but feel as if Prism feels the same about their friendship. Merus considers Prism to be a sort of mentor, helping him through the world similarly to Himmsworth.
- O'Brien: While Merus is not as close with O'Brien as he is with his other family members and rarely talks with him, he does regard O'Brien as family despite their astrainged relationship.
- Cosmos: - soon to come -
- The King of Eden: Merus met the King during one of his visits to the Royal Palace. Merus sought to impress the old king, being as respectful and humble as he could during their first meeting. The King holds high expectations for Merus and he intends to uphold those expectations.
- The Queen of Eden: Merus has come to very much dislike the Queen of Eden as the two have an immense disliking and hatred for one another. While the Queen dislikes and hates Merus because he was born of blasphemy and goes against their religious beliefs, Merus hates the Queen for her hypocrisy and unwillingness to change.
- Falklore: Falklore's heroism is an inspiration to Merus. From their first meeting when Death had threatened to kill Merus' family, Falklore had stepped in and put a stop to it. Merus felt inspired and admired his hero. Merus wanted to be a hero like him. Falklore has become Merus' mentor, however he has high expectations for Merus as unlike Falklore, Merus wants to be a hero and a knight.
- Princess Helia: In Volume 1 and 2 Merus and Helia's relationship has grown over the years, becoming close friends with each other. Although they don't usually see each other due to Helia's responsibilities as the Princess and upcoming Queen of Eden. they scarcely see each other, their meetings being in small spades at most. Merus enjoys his time with the Princess though. However, in Volume 3, their relationship becomes almost estranged due to Helia's secret being told to Merus of how he was being used by her.
- Prince Jeremy: Jeremy and Merus have grown a big respect towards each other. Despite the few times they've interacted with each other, the two have shown great compatibility as comrades and teammates alongside Yuko.
- Yuko Ucagu: Yuko and Merus show a very brotherly relationship towards each other, Merus would even consider Yuko to be his best friend. The two have a bond with each other coming from a place of expectations and family drama. The two have shown great link during battle and are great teammates alongside with Prince Jeremy
- Eden: -=Soon to come=-
- Gertrude: Gertrude and Merus have a great relationship. Starting skeptical and distant at first, the two quickly warmed up to each other during the few days they were training under Falklore. Within the training grounds, they were almost inseparable and showed great teamwork with each other during training and battle. Their relationship was a bit awkward at times, as Gertrude is Merus' first girlfriend, but that never stopped the two from enjoying their time with one another.
- Ucagu Coi: Merus and CoI, like with Yuko, show a big brother, little brother, dynamic in which Coi constantly attempts to annoy and mess with Merus and Yuko despite it not bothering Merus all that much. He enjoys having Coi around, finding him somewhat humorous in the moment.
- Forbidden Conduit of Corruption: Merus absolutely despises Corruption. Merus, at first, thought nothing of the Forbidden Conduit. but after he had killed Reia, Merus had a massive hatred for Corruption. Although he blames himself for her death for not saving her.
- Lycan Geri: Merus, for a day, was kidnapped by Geri due to him being hired by the Forbidden Conduit of Networks, Nicole. During his time with Geri, Merus had to endure the more cruel side of the world while he was in the underbelly. Though, his time with Geri only strengthened his resolve to prove him wrong.
- Death: One of the first Conduits Merus encounters, Death. Merus has mixed feelings of Death, he wants to hate him, despise and loathe Death. However, as he talked with Zee and Isbert, the Forbidden Conduit of Frost, as well as his growing mindset, Merus understands why Death came and did what he did. But the haunting of his mother and Prism's potential death keeps Merus for forgiving and allow him to move forward with his feelings on Death.
- Grace: Grace and Merus have an eternal disdain for one another. While Merus completely understand why Bio-Conduit's were banned, he cannot get behind the fact that Grace is just an asshole to him despite not doing anything wrong.
- Forbidden Conduit of Networks, Nicole: Merus and Nicole have a huge displeasure for one another. Merus actively hates Nicole, just the mention of her gets him annoyed.
- Muse: Merus and Muse enjoy each other's company. After their first meeting in the twisted Lands, Merus had considered Muse to be an aunt, often calling her "Auntie Muse" on any occasion the two are together. Merus has asked Muse multiple times to teach him how to play instruments and she does. From his time with her he learned to play the flute, guitar, and a harp.
Powers / Abilities[]
Cosmic blast[]
Being the first attack Merus ever learned from his mother, He is capable of firing small, star-like blasts from his fingertips. This blast is capable of piercing through objects and people, leaving severe burns in the process.
Cosmos grasp[]
Merus is capable of moving and manipulating the cosmos around him as a form of warping reality and telekinesis. With this, he is capable of moving objects and people, creating stars, planets and other celestial objects normally found in space by compressing the cosmic forces and gasses around him into a concentrated area which is usually his palms.
Shooting Star[]
This ability allows for Merus to summon a full-grown celestial body to come down from a portal and smash into someone, either crushing them or detonating on top of them, causing massive damage to the terrain.
Realm Rain[]
Merus opens a large portal in the sky, of which an Eden Orb sized realm falls out of the portal, dropping onto a location of Merus's choice. The realm effecively explodes as it crashes into the area causing major destruction and damage.
Cosmic Wail[]
Merus is capable of letting out a powerful wail that traverses through the grapevines of the Cosmic Essence itself. It brings forth a message, or a call for help, towards those Merus knows personally. They can choose to decline or answer his call. If accepted, it tears a rift in the world itself, bringing forth the person the message has reached to assist Merus in any need.
Blackhole Punch[]
Merus can create a blackhole in the palm of his hand, crushing it and then absorbing its properties into his hand. Merus can then attract his opponents through the immense gravity in his hand, and deliver a punch that sends forth a burst of Cosmic Essence into the opponent and around them in a small area.
Inherited Affinity[]
Merus, being the son of Edra and descendant of the Forbidden Conduit of the Cosmos/Queen of the Cosmos, has an affinity for everything Cosmos related. This helps him understand the Cosmic Essence itself and allows him to better utilize his abilities that rely more of the Cosmos side rather than the Bio-Conduit side.
Timeless Immortality[]
As a result of eating an illegal fruit from the tree of time, Merus was instantly granted immortality in which would allow him to live forever. Although, until he reaches his prime, he’ll continue to age, but never die of aging.
Heightened Senses[]
Due to being near the Dead Tree in the Twisted Lands, Merus was smelling in the toxic air that polluted the area near the tree. Prism had heightened all of Merus’s Senses in order to breathe the toxins as if they were fresh air.Bio-Conduit of Pre-Eminence[]
Merus is the Bio-Conduit of Pre-Eminence. His Bio-conduit revolves around the abstract concept of Superiority (Pre-Eminence) which allows him to massively increase his power through his own belief that he is superior towards others.
Subconscious/Passive Ability[]
Subconsciously, Merus is granted a 15x boost in power added onto his current strength. This is not something he can activate at will, it just happens randomly and more often in battles.
Novice (Currently at this Level)[]
Merus is capable of increasing his power dramatically through his own superiority to himself, he exponentially gets an increase in power for as long as Merus deems himself to be superior than he was last. This allows him to grow in strength very quickly and continuously.
Advanced beginner[]
Merus is capable of becoming “superior” towards others he feels superior towards, gaining massive strength, durability, speed etc. In this state, Merus is capable of transcending basic and super concepts and structures to a certain extent if he feels/believes he is superior to them. He also gains new abilities that go along with his nature and personality while also boosting his current abilities.
Competent[]
As Merus' tier grows to Competent, Merus embodies Pre-Eminence. Merus is capable of cutting off the power, source, or even stopping abilities from being made by completely draining the power of his opponent.
Proficient[]
At Proficient level, Merus is capable of selecting certain aspects of himself; whether that be his own strength, durability, transcendence, Cosmic Essence, speed etc, Merus is able to transcend into a higher state of being by allowing him to remove his natural limitations and weaknesses of which all range from being physical, spiritual, mental, metaphysical, etc. This allows Merus to achieve things easier than before such like developing abilities, fixing flaws, changing his form to suit better environments, and even transcending his current limits.
On top of this, Merus' original transcendence is immensely improved as is capable of eternally transcending himself higher and higher infinitely. This allows Merus to be in an endless state of transcendence so long as he believes/feels to be superior to himself. Merus is essentially transcending his state of being, existence, nature, capabilities, abilities, etc., infinitely with no limit as his limits are shattered. On top of that, Merus is capable of removing his inferior aspects onto his opponents.
Master[]
Merus is capable of manipulating Superiority almost to its fullest extent. While being able to transcend himself eternally and infinitely, Merus is able to alter the power of others he chooses, making them inferior to him. Merus is also capable of transferring the power or “superiority” of beings like gods and even other conduits to himself, making him grow in power more while the others decrease in power.
Full-Fledge Bio-Conduit[]
At Full-Fledge, Merus' body begins to excrete power as his eyes glow a bright orange and an orange star-thorn crown emerges from his head. At this stage, Merus is capable of nullifying all forms of transcendence and superiority. He is capable of stealing the strength, speed, durability, transcendence, and over all superior aspects of people who are superior to Merus himself.Gallery[]
